Scientists have proposed building a fleet of sailing spaceships

Scientists at the University of California at Berkeley have proposed building a fleet of small spaceships that use the energy of sunlight captured by sails to move. This is reported in a paper published in the journal Acta Astronautica.

The Berkeley Low-cost Interplanetary Solar Sail (BLISS) project builds on other small spacecraft projects, including CubeSats, ChipSats and the Breakthrough Starshot Initiative. Its goal is to rapidly and inexpensively explore the inner regions of the solar system.
