On 21 August 2022, the series “House of the Dragon” – a prequel to the fantasy saga “Game of Thrones” and the second project in the franchise “A Song of Ice and Fire” – was released. The premiere was watched by about ten million viewers, which became the highest indicator in the history of HBO, and after five days the creators of the project announced the continuation of the series for a second season.
The first season of “Dragon House”
Filming and plot
Filming of the first season of “Dragon House” began in April 2021 and lasted nine months. Most of the project was filmed in the UK; the creators also used several locations in Spain and Portugal (for filming scenes in King’s Harbour). The project was based on individual chapters of the book by writer George R. R. Martin’s “The Flame and the Harbour”. R. R. Martin’s “Flame and Blood”, which tells about the events that took place on the fictional continent of Westeros about 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones” and 100 years after the unification of the Seven Kingdoms.
The first series introduces the viewer to the main characters. At the time, Westeros is ruled by King Viserys, who dreams of an heir. To his great disappointment, his wife and the newborn prince die in childbirth, and Viserys appoints his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen as heir. Some time later, the king remarries, to Rhaenyra’s friend Alicente Hightower. This marriage produces two boys, Aegon and Aymond (the main pretenders to the throne and Rhaenyra’s rivals) and a girl, Helaine.
