Poilievre joins Trudeau’s call for meeting on carbon pricing with premiers

He says critics, including Conservative prime ministers, exaggerate the impact of the fuel tax while pointing out how families receive quarterly rebates to help offset the cost. The payments are most generous for low-income households.

Ahead of the April 1 rate hike, Trudeau rejected calls from seven premiers to repeal it, including Newfoundland’s only Liberal premier and Labrador’s Andrew Furey.

All Atlantic premiers have called for a pause, as well as Ontario, Saskatchewan and Alberta, which generally strongly oppose carbon pricing.
